Ryosuke Yagi (八木良介、やぎ・りょうすけ)

Music composer (born in 1978, Kobe, Japan, raised in Kamakura)

 

Education

University of Cincinnati, College-Conservatory of Music, CCM (Cincinnati, OH).

Doctor of Musical Arts degree in composition with theory as a cognate study field: degree expected in 2007. Studies in composition and orchestration with Joel Hoffman and Michael Fiday. Studies in theory with Robert Zierolf, Miguel Roig-Francoli, Steven Cahn, David Carson Berry, and Catherine Losada.

University of California, Santa Barbara, UCSB (Santa Barbara, CA).

Master of Arts in Composition: 2003; Bachelor of Music in Composition: 2000. Studies in composition and counterpoint with Joel Feigin. Studies in orchestration with William Kraft and Jeremy Haladyna. Studies in electro-acoustic music with Curtis Roads. Studies in theory with Pieter van den Toorn.

Further studies:

Selected to participate in The European American Music Alliance's Summer Music Program in composition held at La Schola Cantorum in Paris in 2003. Intensive study of the crafts of counterpoint, harmony, analysis, musicianship, and composition taught in the tradition of Nadia Boulanger. Studies in composition and counterpoint with Philip Lasser.

 


 

Awards

Orchestra composition competition
(2006)

First prize awarded to Concerto for Timpani and Orchestra and the piece was premiered by John Lane, timpanist, and CCM Philharmonia Orchestra conducted by Mark Gibson in April, 2006.
